Abstract
Former Secretary of Labor and university professor Robert Reich argues that the public sector has a significant role to play in improving the American economy, but not in the traditional way of simply providing unemployment insurance of welfare. "It's a matter of giving people access to the skills they need to succeed in the new economy," Secretary Reich explains. He adds that, "...it's not just skills. It may be, particularly for a lot of single women, affordable childcare, affordable healthcare."
