Footage from the 1997 documentary “A Life Apart: Hasidism in America” (directed by Menachem Daum and Oren Rudavsky), the first in-depth documentary about Hasidic Jews, members of a distinctive group within Judaism that has roots in pre-World War II Eastern Europe.

Father was Holocaust survivor who did not have opportunity for proper education so son had to rely on school for this. Childhood misbehavior. At thirteen sent to England to Bobover Hasidim.

00:05:07 - Never felt deprived of sports or American culture because he enjoyed playing with brothers and holidays, like Sukkoth. His own children also have happy lives. Watched television only once in his life.
