Abstract
Footage from the 1997 documentary “A Life Apart: Hasidism in America” (directed by Menachem Daum and Oren Rudavsky), the first in-depth documentary about Hasidic Jews, members of a distinctive group within Judaism that has roots in pre-World War II Eastern Europe.

00:00:02 - Gold boys ritually wash their hands before eating and say the requisite blessing. Chips Gold makes breakfast. Yeshia, as an older child, prays from a siddur (prayerbook). He also says a prayer before he eats.

A daughter joins the boys in the kitchen for breakfast and ritually washes her hands and explains the blessings she's said after washing and before eating. She explains that the boys go to the Belz yeshiva and that she goes to a Bais Yaakov school.

As a religious Jewish mother, she has a different job and role than her husband. The men's job is to learn, the woman's job is to raise the children. Has married off 4 children.
