Abstract
Footage from the 1997 documentary “A Life Apart: Hasidism in America” (directed by Menachem Daum and Oren Rudavsky), the first in-depth documentary about Hasidic Jews, members of a distinctive group within Judaism that has roots in pre-World War II Eastern Europe.
The Gold family, Belzer Hasidim, erecting a sukkah in their backyard for Sukkot (harvest festival commemorating the temporary shelters used by the Israelites during their wandering in the wilderness). (Part 1) People performing shlogn kaporas (a rite involving live chickens that takes place on the eve of Yom Kippur).
