Abstract
Footage from the 1997 documentary “A Life Apart: Hasidism in America” (directed by Menachem Daum and Oren Rudavsky), the first in-depth documentary about Hasidic Jews, members of a distinctive group within Judaism that has roots in pre-World War II Eastern Europe.

00:03:16 - Entrance to Ger Bais Yaakov school for girls: school buses; students and teachers arriving and entering the building, greeted by the principal.

00:14:25 - The principal in conversation with students inside the school about a Hannukah play. She explains a Hebrew welcome sign with biblical verse is there in honor of a visit by the wife of the Gerer Rebbe. A welcome sign on a classroom door.

00:17:21 - Girls and their teacher in a kindergarten classroom. Attendance is taken. They chant blessings and songs in Hebrew and Yiddish.
