Abstract
Footage from the 1997 documentary “A Life Apart: Hasidism in America” (directed by Menachem Daum and Oren Rudavsky), the first in-depth documentary about Hasidic Jews, members of a distinctive group within Judaism that has roots in pre-World War II Eastern Europe.

The Gold family, Belzer Hasidim, at a festive Purim meal. Purim is a holiday celebrated in commemoration of the deliverance of the Jews from the massacre plotted by Haman, when it is customary for children dress up in costumes. (Part 2)

00:00:23 - Gold family at festive Purim meal: Children. Men sing nigunim (traditional melodies) and Purim songs. More family members arrive with their children, who are in costume. Purimshpilers arrive and sing a song and dance. Jack Gold gives them a donation for the charity they are collecting for. One of the Gold sons joins them for dance.

He owes it all to the blessing of the Belzer Rebbe. When she was growing up in Australia she never imagined that she would be living a Hasidic life. Gold: About how she dreams of her parents whenever someone has become pregnant. About being blessed and surviving to see grandchildren. The men sing a nigun.
