Abstract
Cultural traditions often prescribe gender roles and relationships between women and men, ranging from the subordination of women to relative equality. Other than the biological differences between men and women, research indicates that the psychological, intellectual, and emotional differences between the two sexes are quite small. Patterns of gender differences do vary by culture and ethnicity. The African-American experience is not the same as white Americans, James Jones contends. The goal Janet Helms says is not to achieve color-blindness, but to notice race and not have it matter.
