Abstract
By the end of childhood, most children have developed a sense of themselves as individuals, unique and apart from others they know and see. Although the general consensus of researchers is that this sense does not emerge before the age of two, Karen Wynn believes that social emotions are evident at a younger age. Between ages five to seven, a child begins to develop an autobiographical memory, a feeling of self across time. Correlational research suggests that authoritative parenting is best at fostering high self esteem in children.
