Abstract
Researchers have found that social support correlates with healthy blood pressure and lower levels of stress hormones. People with a close network who were exposed to a virus that causes a common cold, then quarantined did not become ill. It is thought that people with social support tend to take better care of themselves, have greater purpose and meaning in their lives, and someone to talk to when they are troubled. It is also thought that the repeated suppression of emotions like anger may negatively influence the cardiovascular and immune systems.
