Abstract
The notion of an enduring self that integrates a person's interactions and experiences continues to capture the attention of psychologists. The self and how it is shaped is at the core of psychological science. Recent research by Hazel Markus and her colleagues takes the concept of self a step further with the idea of multiple, equally viable, ways of being a self in relation to others. This idea she says is particularly critical in the world of diversity in which we live.
