Abstract
A person who suffers from posttraumatic stress disorder repeatedly re-experiences a disturbing event in their life. A scene of what happened pops into their mind or they alternately try to convince themselves that it could not have happened. Not everyone who experiences a traumatic event, however, will develop PTSD. Studies show that the degree of psychological preparedness is the single best predictor who develops PTSD. Another factor is previous exposure to traumatic events and how the person responded.
