Abstract
Although James Masterson clearly differentiates his psychodynamic approach from the strict Freudian model, there are some distinct similarities, particularly in the relationship between therapist and patient. This clip shows Dr. Masterson working with and challenging a patient at different stages to break down his defenses and achieve what he terms "a therapeutic alliance."
