Abstract
People with psychological disorders do get better, and they tend to attribute their improvement to the therapy, but the question is would they have gotten better with no treatment at all. The key is research, which is difficult given confidentiality requirements. A study of depressed teenage girls and their families who were part of a program at Emory University School of Medicine showed they did better than the one-third, one-third-one-third rule. The same is true of PTSD treatment as victims of the disease learn to manage disease symptoms.
