Abstract
Violence breeds in neighborhoods where children go to sleep at night hearing gunfire. It lurks behind the closed doors of a family home in which intimate partner violence and child abuse are a way of life. Children who grow up with violence become perpetrators or victims of abuse themselves. In some cultures aggression is valued as a way of gaining power and status. But in cultures where violence is devalued, aggressive modeling has little impact.
