Abstract
Professor of psychiatry and author Kay Redfield Jamison talks about the high levels of Lithium she took early in her treatment. Dr. Jamison explains this was done to "get my mania in line," but also because it was the standard of medical care at the time. "It was very blunting and very disturbing and upsetting to me...the idea of being on any kind of medication at all and also...one that had very deep side effects." Dr. Jamison explains that she is currently on a much lower dose.
