Abstract
One of the most critical breakthroughs in medicine was the ability to test for and detect the presence of HIV without having to wait for the onset of physical symptoms. And there have been remarkable strides in the development of drugs used in the fight against HIV/AIDS. But along with the progress have come setbacks, some of which have come about, at least in part, as a result of the medical advances that have been made. In some countries, most notably Africa, AIDS has become the single most devastating threat to life.
