Abstract
There are numerous challenges facing most big cities in the United States today. These include managing population growth, adjusting to the post-industrial economy, and coping with class, racial and ethnic conflict. One option for those who can afford it has been to leave the city and head for the suburbs. But despite the mass exodus from some of America's largest cities, there are still many Americans who would live nowhere else.
