Abstract
The most widely used theoretical perspectives reflect the diverse and eclectic nature of contemporary families. Macro-level perspectives on the family include: ecological theory, which examines the relationships between individuals and social environments; structural functional theory, which focuses on the institution of family in the context of the roles it plays in society; and conflict theory, which looks at the struggle for power, sometimes reflected in the relationships between men and women.
