Abstract
The rules and roles of dating were much more clearly prescribed forty to fifty years ago. It was up to the boy or man to make the plans, ask in advance, and pay for the date. Today group dating and companionship is much more common. Young men and women place less emphasis on pursuing relationships with long-term potential because they do not intent to think about marriage until they are in their late twenties.
