Abstract
In the 1990s David Buss and an international team of collaborators surveyed the mating preferences of over 10,000 people in 37 countries. They found that women preferred a man with status and resources and men sought women with homemaker qualities. Today, in many areas, the improved status of women has made mate selection more egalitarian. A native American couple talks about the impact of the clan system on mate selection. Most people place mutual attraction and love near the top of the list of qualities they are seeking in a mate.
