Abstract
Over the course of their lives, one-third of all American women experience physical violence at the hand of their intimate partners over the course of their lives. Children who are exposed to such family violence grow up to use abuse themselves as a way of dealing with their anger and need for power and control. All too often poverty serves as a breeding ground for family violence. Statistics show that although minority women are at a higher risk for interpersonal violence, racial differences dissipate when you control for social class.
