Abstract
Children who live in homes where domestic violence is occurring are 15 times more likely to be physically abused or neglected themselves. DHHS receives approximately 3 million reports of child maltreatment each year, the majority for child neglect. Shari Philpot recounts the story of growing up in an abusive household and trying to protect her younger brothers. Child maltreatment, as we see, can occur in any type of family.
