Abstract
The Confederate war experience is very different from the experience of the North simply because most of the battles are fought on Southern ground. Looking toward the campaigning season of 1864, the Confederates are desperate but determined. The mood in the North is one of confidence as the North's industrial and numerical advantages come into play. Now that Lincoln has named Grant to head the Union army, people are convinced that the Union army will have a winning plan.
