Abstract
Although relatively few people are invested in the market, the 1929 stock market crash destabilizes other areas of the economy, particularly the banking system. Hoover encourages development of the National Credit Corporation to help rescue banks in danger of failing to meet depositor's demands, but NCC directors are reluctant to act. Older large industries that employ the largest number of people are harder hit than newer industries such as chemicals, electronics, processed foods, and petroleum. Unemployment levels near the 30% mark.
