Abstract
The unpopularity of Hoover virtually guarantees a Democratic victory in the election of 1932. Democratic candidate Franklin Delano Roosevelt is not the most titanic figure on the political landscape, but he wins the nomination because of powerful support from political leaders like Huey Long. Hoover is weakened not only by Depression but by the violence of Bonus March. FDR promises to balance federal budget if elected, but he is vague about other strategies. Roosevelt wins by a landslide, with Democrats dominating both houses of Congress.
