Abstract
Roosevelt submits an extraordinary number of bills to Congress in the first 100 days of his administration, diverse experiments designed to combat the Depression. FDR's optimism is contagious; he never doubts something will work. He conveys this belief to people through a series of radio fireside "chats" that reach an audience of up to 80 million people, half of country. People respond, sending Roosevelt an average of 8000 letters a day.
