Abstract
Even with the outpouring of legislation in 1935, Roosevelt's prospect's for reelection in 1936 seem in doubt. Before Huey Long's assassination it was thought that he might become a third-party candidate. Disenchanted liberals are not pleased with Roosevelt's moderate course, but do not believe they have an alternative. The nomination of Alf Landon as the Republican's presidential candidate is not thought to be major competition. Landon is not opposed to everything the New Deal has done, but says Republicans will manage the programs more efficiently and effectively. Roosevelt campaigns aggressively, openly attacking rich capitalists. The election results in Roosevelt's winning the greatest landslide to date.
