Abstract
Secretary of State Dean Atchison tells MacArthur that it is time to reverse existing policies and allow Japan to strengthen and centralize its economy. MacArthur resists strategy, bit within three years of the war's end the United States is rehabilitating former enemies like Mitsubishi and Mitsui. The Korean War which breaks out in June 1950 solidifies this reverse course. Japan becomes a staging area and base for the rest of Asia, not only in terms of troops but the economies of free world.
