Abstract
This program examines how Walter Cronkite and the media questioned a victory and how the war in Vietnam was lost. During the Tet truce for Chinese New Year, January 31st 1968, the Vietcong carried out a surprise attack on America's Embassy in Vietnam's capital, Saigon. It was the beginning of a country-wide offensive as major cities were assaulted all over Vietnam and thousands were killed. Television footage of the attacks was broadcast in America where the CBS Anchorman Walter Cronkite publicly questioned America's involvement in the war. His report sent shock waves through an American public already wavering in their support for President Lyndon Johnson.
