Abstract
The story of Japan is like that of no other nation on Earth. For two thousand years, the Japanese people have lived an often-isolated life of striking contrasts. The military aspects of Japanese history are familiar to many, and this fascinating program reveals the achievement of the famous Samurai warriors with their noble Code of Bushido. But Japan is also a land of beauty and peace. Its pagodas, temples and other great monuments are the physical constructions of a people steeped in the ways of Buddhism. Rituals such as the tea ceremony also reveal a civilization deeply concerned with balance, order and calm. By examining all sides of the Japanese story, the identity of a unique society is revealed.
