Abstract
His popularity diminished, Truman withdraws from presidential race in 1952. The Democratic Party unites behind Adlai Stevenson, Governor of Illinois, while Republicans turn to a man with no previous party affiliation, General Dwight D. Eisenhower. Eisenhower is elected and after 20 years of Democratic domination of the federal government. Republicans win majority in Congress as well. The Democrats treat Eisenhower better than Republicans treated Truman, resulting in a major reduction of political bickering and fighting.
