Abstract
Great Society programs and military ventures cause the U.S. federal budget to soar beyond its revenue base in the late 1960s. Some analysts argue that the Great Society is slowing the free market and keeping America from growing at a pace that will lift people out of poverty. Despite expert opinion Americans are quite happy with the legacies of the Great Society.
