Abstract
As the 1972 election approaches, the Nixon administration steps up its efforts to end the carnage in Vietnam. Kissinger continues negotiations. In order to pressure North Vietnam, Nixon unleashes B-52 bombs at Christmas, an act that is condemned internationally. Negotiations are resumed in January 1973 resulting in the initialing of the Paris Peace Accords three days after Nixon is re-inaugurated. The fact that the United States did not demand mutual withdrawal foreshadows the collapse of South Vietnam.
