Abstract
During the 1970's, population density in the United States begins to shift from the old industrial belt of the Northeast to the booming sunbelt of the Southwest. The country is also experiencing the beginnings of a major religious revival, from evangelical Protestant Christianity to New Age spirituality. Evangelical Christians are part of the movement led by Ronald Reagan. Although President Carter secures his party's nomination in the 1980 presidential contest, he cannot counter the conservative surge.
