Abstract
After the relative quiet of Clinton's last two years in office, the presidential election of 2000 turns out to be one of the most controversial in American history. As television coverage of the election unfolds, Gore wins the popular vote. The debate is over whether Florida's electoral votes were in the George Bush or the Al Gore column due to ballot irregularities. The Supreme Court in effect upholds the Florida court decision to stop the recount.
