Abstract
American history professor Alice Kessler-Harris talks about the division of labor by gender before and during the Industrial Revolution. "Women's labor is...cheap labor because it's assumed that women do not have to support families and therefore they can be hired for less...their wages are usually about a third to a half of a comparable male wage," Professor Kessler-Harris explains.
