Abstract
Historian Peter Onuf explains that the Articles of Confederation represented the only way of creating an effective alliance among the American provinces. However, Professor Onuf adds that the Articles of Confederation were limited in their usefulness. "A loose union could not survive the peace. That's the paradox of the Articles of Confederation. They were good enough for the War, but were impossible during time of peace."
