Abstract
Nurses are expected to be sweet, caring, and quietly efficient while working under difficult and stressful circumstances, including disrespectful treatment from colleagues and administrators. Some studies suggest that many who enter nursing grew up in alcoholic or dysfunctional families where they learned to ignore their own needs, take care of others, and not make waves. The producer of this program was a nurse for 25 years. This program surveys the roots and present-day realities of nursing, interspersed with the stories of several nurses, including Laura Gasparis Vonfrolio and Rhetaugh Dumas. Encourages nurses to stand up for themselves, for each other, and for their rights as professionals in the workplace.
