Abstract
Social psychologist Mahzarin Banaji explains that there is some degree of prejudice, whether conscious or not, in nearly everyone. She uses Abraham Lincoln as an example, citing the contradictions between his public record as "the great emancipator" with some of his personal beliefs. "If we read further into what Abraham Lincoln believed, he also believed very clearly that African-Americans were an inferior group, that marriage between the two groups was never going to be possible, and so on."
