Abstract
Reaching statehood in 1850, over the next 160 years California's many peoples tell the story of the Wild West - building the Transcontinental Railroad, the founding of Hollywood and the state's famous wineries in Sonoma and Napa Valleys. They tell the harrowing story of surviving the San Francisco earthquake of 1906, coming through the Great Depression, WWII and conquering the Cold War menace of communism. And they tell the story of world's greatest era of innovation - the Information Age - from computers to the Internet.
