Abstract
Nowhere are workplace hazards more evident than in the mining industry. The use of dynamite in the early days of mining and into the early 1900s made for extremely hazardous conditions. Technology introduced in the mid-1900s resulted in an epidemic of Black Lung disease because of the increased levels of dust created by the continuous mining machines. Today, operators work in pressurized cabs sealed against dust and provided with a clean air supply.
