Abstract
This is part three of a history of the cultural evolution of man, from primitive times to the present, presented by the late Dr. Jacob Bronowski. Beginning with the shaping of the earth by nature, this program discusses man the architect and builder, and visits such sites as the Canyon de Chelly in Arizona, the Inca city of Machu Picchu in Peru, Paestum in Italy, Segovia and Cordova in Spain, Rheims in France and, finally, the Watts Tower in Los Angeles. It traces the origin of science in the action of the hand, with which man splits a stone and puts the pieces together again to build a wall, a cathedral or a city.
