Abstract
This is part eight of a history of the cultural evolution of man, from primitive times to the present, presented by the late Dr. Jacob Bronowski. Dealing with revolutions and power, it shows how, in the 18th century, the forces of nature were harnessed and political power shifted from the aristocracy to the common man. Dr. Bronowski talks about the significance of Mozart's "The marriage of Figaro" in this context and then moves on to the industrial revolution in England. He discusses the development of inventions such as the steam engine and explains how, in time, the industrial revolution became a social revolution as well.
