Abstract
This is part nine of a history of the cultural evolution of man, from primitive times to the present, presented by the late Dr. Jacob Bronowski. This program journeys from the valleys and waterfalls of Wales to the jungles of the Amazon to discusses theories of evolution and the origins of life, and deals with the work of the men who did most of the early research, Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace. It then moves to the laboratory and explains how the theories of Darwin and Wallace helped men like Louis Pasteur. It also shows how today's scientists have learned to express the cycles of life in chemical form and have been able to create some of the organic molecules that are known to form the cornerstones of life.
