Abstract
This is part thirteen of a cultural history of the evolution of man, from primitive times to the present, presented by the late Dr. Jacob Bronowski. In this program, the last in the series, Bronowski discusses the way every age and culture has limited the opportunities of the child, turning it into a carbon copy of its parents. The longest childhood, he says, is that of man himself growing to self-knowledge. The personal commitment of a man to his skill, the intellectual commitment and the emotional commitment working together as one, has, in his opinion, made the ascent of man possible.
