Abstract
This clip explains that subtraction is used to solve two different types of problems. In the first, we start with some things and remove--or take away--some or all of them. The other approach to subtraction, called the missing addend, "…is like going part of the way and asking how much further." It is closely related to addition. A typical problem might read: "Suppose you need $7 for a book, and you have $5. How much more do you need?"
