Abstract
This clip presents practical problems in which meters must be converted to feet, and kilometers must be converted to miles. In the first problem, the student must determine how many feet of telephone cord are on a 100-meter roll. "We'll use the decimal method to convert 100 meters to centimeters," the clip states. In the second problem, the student must determine how many miles there are in a 45-kilometer run. "We'll start by using the decimal shortcut," the clip says. "We'll convert 5 kilometers to centimeters. We're converting to a smaller unit, so we'll use the smaller right rule."
