Globalization with a human face. Day 1. Pt. 1 of 5
Abstract
Globalization with a Human Face seeks to examine current understanding and perceptions about globalization among policy makers, scholars and the American public. How can the American public be educated to understand the interconnection between U.S. interests and the interests of the entire world? What is the role of the academy and educators in promoting equitable development worldwide? This conference convenes policy makers and scholars to consider the broad topics of governance, suitable development, and social justice. Part one contains the conference’s keynote address regarding the intersection of globalization and worldwide human rights issues. It is given by former President of Ireland Mary Robinson, who served as United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights from 1997-2002 and is currently the director of the Ethical Globalization Initiative. A Q&A session with the audience follows.
