Abstract
This panel discussion entitled “Globalization in Historical Perspective: Anything New and for Whom?” analyzes differences and similarities among past globalization processes and those of today. In addition, the panel looks at contemporary counter-globalization efforts and brings an historical perspective to the impact of globalization on the development of human rights. The final speaker addresses labor rights violations in the United States. Panelists include Joaquin Almunia, Member of the Spanish Parliament; Beth Stephens, Professor of Law at Rutgers University Law School in Camden, New Jersey; Richard Franke, Professor of Anthropology at Montclair State University; and Immanuel Ness, Associate Professor of Politics at Brooklyn College, CUNY.
