Creating Pedagogically Sound Hybrid Courses
Abstract
In an effort to meet the educational needs of all students, regardless of location, personal time commitments and responsibilities, Montclair State University has chosen to focus their efforts on increasing their Hybrid/Online course offerings while demonstrating their continued commitment to achieve excellence in pedagogical standards regardless of delivery method. This presentation will discuss the process of how we successfully transitioned a traditional face-to-face counseling course into a sound pedagogical hybrid alternative. We will discuss what is involved in selecting and transitioning course content from a traditional face-to-face course to a Hybrid model. We will demonstrate a variety of technology tools that were used to facilitate learning such as Blackboard, Second Life, Google Docs, Google Sites, Video Podcasting and Prezi. Our presentation will discuss the positive, unexpected learning outcomes of this model as well as discuss the challenges faced.
